Books Bridge Hope

Books Bridge Hope is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that was founded in 2017 by author Lillie Leonardi. Lillie is a twice traditionally published author with Hay House and retired law enforcement professional.

The organization’s mission is to promote reading, writing, and literacy to housing insecure community members residing on the streets of Pittsburgh and adjacent neighborhoods.

In collaboration with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Community Engagement Office, Books Bridge Hope launched the Box of Goodness initiative. The two organizations merged resources to distribute books, magazines, writing supplies, non-perishable food items, socks and toiletries. Boxes filled with the items are offered to unsheltered community members by Pittsburgh Community Engagement Officers. The primary goal is to provide resources to an underserved population.

 Past collaborations include:

  •  Pittsburgh Mercy Operation Safety Net: This initiative provided opportunities to distribute books, magazines and writing supplies via pop-up libraries at the Wellspring Drop-In Center (Pittsburgh, PA).
  • Holiday Stocking Drive: Students from the Riverview School District and Springdale School District donated 150 holiday stockings stuffed with basic necessities and goodies. The stockings were shared with two other non-profit organizations: Best of the Batch Foundation and Center of Life to distribute to our neighbors in need.

2021 brings an expansion of collaborations and youth based initiatives with Amachi Pittsburgh, Barnes & Noble, Cribs for Kids, Mentoring Partnership of SW PA and WQED Education.

The organization is led by a stellar group of professional women that comprise the Board of Directors.
